A Happy Town (Original, Signed and Framed)

When I was in my early twenties, whilst going through a difficult period mentally, my Dad decided he'd take me to Rome.  When I think back now, it was such an amazing thing for him to do for me.  Whilst there we ate some delicious food, we saw a live orchestra and choir performing in a square next to some ruins in the moonlight.  We walked for miles and we talked in between stopping for ice creams and soft drinks.  At the time I imagine I didn't appear grateful enough, but it had a transformative effect that jolted me out of my depression. 

It was a turning point, one that pushed me gently back toward making art.  We discovered an incredible Paul Klee exhibition.  I didn't know much about him at the time, but when I meandered my way through an expansive exhibition, which included most of his original works I felt mesmerised and incredibly relaxed.  I remember feeling my anxiety dropping away from me. 

There's so much bullshit said about art, so much nonsense and white noise about art on platforms like instagram, for which, I am possibly guilty of being sucked into at times.  The truth is that for me Art can genuinely have a therapeutic and transformative effect .  Looking at it and making it. I believe that what I put in, which is in a sense, the best of me, a piece of love can be passed on to those who choose to look, to really look at my work.

This is my tribute to Paul Klee, my Dad and Rome.  A Happy Town.
